Home > The Double Tap Safety System
This system applies most frequently when practicing application of pressure points, locks, holds and grappling.  If you think of any other situations, feel free to apply it as well.

  1. Let your training partners know that a technique is causing you pain and they should stop before you’re injured by tapping them with a free hand twice quickly on the hand, arm, shoulder, leg or foot.  If you’re unable to use your hands just say the words, “Double tap!”
  2. When you perform a technique on a partner remain alert for your partner to react by either double tapping you or saying the words “Double tap”.  If they do either of these things, immediately stop moving, and slowly and gently release any pressure you’re applying.
